My Top 5 Not Too Quilty Gift Ideas

Are you looking for some ideas to give friends or family this holiday season? If so, I’ve got you covered. As quilters, we tend to have a plethora of fabric and notions. There are tons of blog posts about different quilty notions to put in our stockings. But what about the quilter who doesn’t want the same old stuff. Well, here are my top 5 not too quilty gift ideas (but still apply to quilting) you can forward along to your loved ones…

1) Comfortable wireless headphones

As many know, or maybe they don’t but they will now, quilters like to listen to things while they sew. Some like podcasts or audiobooks, others like music or TV shows/movies. So what’s better than a good pair of comfortable wireless headphones? Whether you like the big padded ones or the tiny ear buds, find a pair you like and put it on your list. They won’t go to waste and they don’t need to break the bank. I tend to like the big gaumy looking ones but you pick what you like. My only recommendation is that they are comfortable for when you have long quilting stretches.

2) Library Card

I know this may sound crazy and for some of you and it may even be FREE too (perfect for if you’re on a tight budget). But, if you live in a small library-less town like me then its not and you may have to go to a nearby community to pay to have one. But you won’t regret it. Did you know they even have apps linked to your library card so you can listen to audiobooks from home? Did you also know they have quilt books and some of the latest seasons of the best TV series around? I have to pay for my library card but it always pays for itself and then some. Not to mention the number of books I have been able to read when I’m not quilting (which actually isn’t very many LOL)!

3) Sewing Pennants

Sewing room décor is always a fun idea too! I bought my personalized Seamingly Kate pennant a while ago and have gotten so many compliments and questions about it. If you want one for yourself be sure to check out Fellow Flag Co.. (NOT an affiliate link) It probably won’t be ready in time, since they are made to order, to put under the tree but at least you know it will be coming. If you’d rather not wait, check out these adorable pennants (see picture below) from Benoit’s Design Co. (also NOT an affiliate link). They are based out of Maine which is always really fun too. They have some great gift options. I’m obsessed! Aren’t these just cunnin? Do you know what “ayuh” means in Mainer?

4) Graph Paper & Markers

I know this may sound a little crazy, but did you know my Portland quilt started out on graph paper? Its such a great way to sketch out some original quilt designs and do some quilt math to figure out how to turn it into reality. Then, of course, you would need to color it in with those amazing markers to bring it to life and get the color palette on point. This is another one of those gifts that doesn’t need to empty your wallet, which is great in times like these. My only recommendation is to buy a graph paper notebook that has a hard cover. Then pages don’t get torn out accidently when it goes on a long car journey with you and your family (don’t ask me how I figured this out). The hard cover also makes it a great way to store all your quilty stickers you’ve been collecting. Lastly, get markers with lots of color options, these can be very affordable depending on where you look. Nothing fancy is needed!

5) Comfy Clothes

It’s not a surprise us quilters like to be comfortable, especially when we plan to make a day of it. It’s also no surprise when you do a quick search on Etsy for “quilter sweatshirt” or “quilt t-shirt” a plethora of results pop up. I don’t know about you, but I don’t tend to buy these for myself. So be sure to send a link or two to your loved ones so they know what you want and what size you are. Or maybe buy a gift for yourself! Also, don’t underestimate the power of a good pair of slippers. I tend to quilt barefoot in the summer months but in the winter my feet need the added warmth (especially since I’ve been banished to quilt in the basement…don’t feel bad for me, its beautiful and it has heat LOL). Maybe this year will be the year I’ll get my Quilter sweatshirt I’ve been eyeing HERE (Also NOT an affiliate link).

Hopefully some of these ideas are something you hadn’t thought of yet and fit within your budget. Let me know in the comments what’s on your Christmas or holiday wish list this year!
